Biometrics Focus Day: 25th October 2007

Biometrics are an essential part of up-and-coming homeland security initiatives. Discover the latest on facial, fingerprint, iris, multimodal and other identification solutions in a workshop setting. Sign up for the Biometrics Focus Day to learn:

  • What the technologies are
  • How they work
  • Where the research and development are heading
  • Current and future applications
  • How they can solve border security issues

8:00 am – 11:00 am Facial Recognition and Vein Scanning

This workshop will cover facial recognition in-depth: what it is, why it is used, and what makes certain solutions better than others. Learn about key product and technology differentiators.

What you will cover:

  • Basic technology
  • Sensors – cameras & microphones
  • Algorithms: speed, IQ (Bracket – Target – Learn – Remember), bandwidth, flexibility
  • Functionality: ease of use, ease of deployment, ease of enrollment, ease of maintenance
  • Technology Application: specific tools, combinations, special applications
  • Environment: cameras, light, support computers, management computers

How you will benefit:

  • Learn how to choose the system that meets your needs
  • Understand future availability: when, scope, compatibility

11:15 am – 2:15 pm Biometric Borders, a Review of the Applications of Biometrics to Secure Borders

(Lunch will be served)

“Biometric Borders” is a 3-hour workshop providing a significant insight into the current state-of-the-art applications of biometrics to secure national borders. The workshop comprises an overview of recent large-scale deployments of biometric systems for border security and a discussion of issues complicating the deployment of other systems. Invited speakers during this interactive workshop will include representatives from industry, government, and the traveling public. The workshop concludes with a discussion of near-term future plans and programs with active audience participation.

Highlights will include:

  • Current Applications of Biometrics in Border Control
  • Passport readers and passport control
  • Case historiesof recent large scale border control deployments using biometrics

The workshop has been organized by the principals of the National Biometric Security Project, a Congressionally-funded non-profit established to objective assessments of biometric technology and advice on appropriate application of current and emerging technologies in the light of the events of 9/11/01.
