09:00 - 12:00 Workshop A: Transforming your organization to a network centric capable force
The transformation of the armed forces from platform-centric organizations to network-centric units will increase effectiveness exponentially in the areas of agility/adaptability, scalability and interoperability. This involves more than technology. It requires the transformation of human and organizational behavior as well.
IBM has helped defense organizations around the world to deploy networkcentric operations projects. We have invited subject matter experts formerly from the military to share their experiences at this workshop. Key areas which will be covered are:
- Global perspectives of NCO and lessons learnt using relevant case studies
- Sensor networks and force protection
- The security implications of NCO and how to effectively implement multi-level security
- Empowering Defence through collaboration
- Realizing NCO through common services
- Understanding the challenges created by Web 2.0 and the impact on your NCO
This workshop will be facilitated by Scott Padgett, Business Unit Executive, Worldwide Public Sector Sales, SWG, IBM, and Andy Heys, Industry Solutions Architect, IBM.
Scott Padgett retired from the US Army in May 2007 as a Lieutenant Colonel with 24 years experience. Mr Padgett’s last position was providing technical and logistics support operations to special operations units deployed around the world assigned to the US Army G4 ODCSLOG staff at the Pentagon. Mr Padgett’s eight year career in the commercial Information Technology sector working for top IT corporations such as Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting) and IBM. He worked in several leadership roles spanning both the consulting and IT sales markets. He is currently Business Unit Executive, Worldwide Public Sector Sales, SWG, IBM.
Andy Heys is an Industry Solutions Architect with over twenty five years experience in the IT industry with IBM, Mr. Heys' industry focus is on Network Centric Operations, Public Safety and Customs, Ports and Borders. Mr Heys’ works with the UK Ministry of Defence, Home Office and Police customers and their equivalent elsewhere, predominantly in Northern Europe, in the application of technology to specific industry needs. His focus is on service oriented architecture, integration and information exploitation. In 2007 he has been engaged in, amongst others, the following projects:- UK CWID 2007, UK MoD Logistics SOA pilot, UK Police National Database, UK MoD Integrated Broadcast Service, Scottish Police Forces Performance Management, Bucharest Police modernization, Norwegian Defense Force information management, Finnish Defense Force future environment
