Geotrace patents well-log development
Feb 4 2009 3:52PM
News brought to you by IQPC.Oil and Gas reservoir firm Geotrace has been granted a patent for technology which is able to match synthetic data obtained from well-log information and processes seismic data, it has been revealed.
According to Dr Jamie A Stien, chief geoscientist at the firm, the system will allow the company to more closely link seismic data and reservoir descriptions of a prospective field.
"When seismic and well-log information can be reconciled, it enhances the descriptions of the reservoirs, leading to better utilisation of all resources," he said.
The firm is committed to developing new ways for clients to minimise risk, cut costs and improve efficiency, Dr Stein added.
The patent for "Non-Linear Seismic Trace Matching to Well Logs" was granted to Geotrace and Dr John Dubose.
Geotrace started life in 1979, offering 2D seismic data processing services to oil and gas companies.
It has since expanded it services and currently has regional headquarters in Houston, London and Cairo.
