Unique Learning Styles
The range of learning styles you can expect to see at the 12th Annual Shared Services Summit
Learning comes in many shapes and styles. At IQPC, we are enhancing the learning delivery methods of our events to help you extract the most information from each and every session so that you maximize the time you spend at the event and enhance your personal professional development. Below is a description of the types of formats that will be used for each session and for your convenience, sessions will display the learning type logo prominently.
Now when assessing each conference session we invite you to:
- Identify the topics of most importance to you – these topics have come from our extensive research with SS practitioners of all types
- Identify the delivery method and learning style – sessions will be designated one of the 5 learning types outlined below
- Pay attention to the attendee guideline – we know that Shared service
professionals come from varied backgrounds, have varied levels of experience and have different needs from the information presented. Under each session description we will outline the experience of the speaker and maturity of the SSO that is being discussed. Feel free to attend any sessions that you wish and that match your level of maturity in each topic area.
Traditional Classroom Sessions
 |
= A traditional lecture format |
| Some sessions still present themselves best through the tried and true delivery format of the classroom style of learning. In these sessions, the presenter will present to you either a case study of their organization success/learning and problems around the topic or, outline findings in a similar style as to what you would expect in a university class lecture. |
“Scenario setting” Interactive Sessions
 |
= The speaker sets the scenario and the Group works together to problem solve |
| Many of you come to events to learn from one another in a more informal basis than the classroom style traditionally allows for. The “Group therapy” learning format allows all of the delegates to share ideas around the topic and learn from one another. To facilitate this learning, the session leader will set a scenario around a timely issue within the industry and will document the solutions brought to the floor by the audience. Post event this information will be fed back to our entire delegation via the event website. |
Roundtable Discussions
 |
= A more informal Group discussion lead by an expert focused on a particular topic of interest |
| The roundtable discussions are the least formal format of the event. Groups will be broken down into smaller discussion Groups to address the topic at hand and each Groups will then relay their feedback to the main Group at the end of the session. The role of the Group discussion leader will be to make sure the Group sizes are conducive to discussion (maximum12 people per Group) and make sure that each Group presents briefly back to the entire Group on their discussions. |
Workshop
 |
= A “hands on” practical tool based learning |
| An IQPC workshop is a 3 hour intensive look at a particular topic. Workshops are hands on practical sessions that allow for examples to be presented and tool to be tested and used in a learning environment with the idea being that you take the tools and techniques used in the workshop straight back to the business to see immediate impact. I workshop you will receive tools and a workbook. Be prepared to come to do some work! |
Site Tour
 |
= An In situ look at a real shared service organization in operation |
| Sometimes visualization is just not enough and we wish that we could actually see what happens. Our site tours take the guesswork out of the process. The Site tour takes you on site to a leading organizations operation and shows you not only the layout of the center but allows you the opportunity to meet with the different heads of departments, see the technology in action and ask all those questions you really wanted to ask the people at the front line. |
